Fish Paste Noodle at Wan Wan Restaurant in Kota Kinabalu

Was looking for good local food places for breakfast and so happens as I walk hopelessly in town, Tasha Chua my friend from Uni who's hometown is in KK called me during her day off at work and drove me to her favorite place for breakfast.

I would say, if it wasn't a local who bring you around, I honestly did not know this place exist! Located far away in an industry area and hidden behind some factory outlet. They do have good signboard direction to guide first time visitors but if your out of town, its pretty hard to get to here.

Wan Wan sells fresh fish head, fish paste and fish mou with noodles in clear soup or curry soup. You get to choose between noodle or meehoon both are fresh and unique it's totally different from any hawker stalls noodles.

Really fresh fish paste, smooth in texture and really chewy and bouncy! I've never ate any fish paste like this before, except for fish ball I did tasted very fresh fish balls before.

Meehoon topped with minced chicken in a unique sauce under it. Not your typical black sauce.

This is the Noodle. Same dressing as the meehoon.

A delicious breakfast before my island trip! Yums! I was also told that this was their 3rd location after being shifting twice as the first outlet was on fire and then with the lack of parking space in the 2nd outlet they shifted to the factory area here. The shop is a full house with people coming and going off. Quite a popular place among the locals.

The price ranges from RM 5.50 - RM 10.00 for the fresh fish, it's totally affordable!

Stuffed Crabs at Tong Juan in Kemaman, Terengganu

During my trip to Awana Kijal, we had the opportunity to try stuffed crabs. Known to be quite famous around here especially in Reasturant Tong Juan.

This place is quite popular besides Pak Su Seafood Reasturant.

A simple restaurant with customers come and go.

Stuffed Crabs! I've never seen one before nor did I tried any. Pretty interesting to have one. RM 7, each.

The stuffings inside of the stuffed crabs consist of fried crab meat with vegetables. Taste was a little flat perhaps it's common around this area in Terengganu?

Fish Ball Soup is superb! Those fish balls were so chewy and fresh! Yums. The soup is good!

Fried Rice

Sotong cooked with Belacan. Spicy hot dish!

Thai sauce Fish.

Vegetables

Beef cooked with ginger and onions.

We're so excited with the stuffed crabs me & JQ posed with it!

Mamutik Island, Graffiti Building and Filipino Market in Kota Kinabalu

Sun is up and shining. Had my stomach fixed after having fish paste noodle for brunch now it's time to stop by in the island of Kota Kinabalu to chill over the afternoon on a Monday! Great getaway when everyone is at work. So I get to have the island by myself - most probably.

The last time when I visited KK, I went to Manukan Island so this time around I'm gonna spend the afternoon in another island.

PS: Details on how to get to Mamutik island is at the end of this post, so you guys get to enjoy some island trip if your in KK too! :)

Excited KB and chilling me.

Clear waters so we've arrived at our stop. Say hello to Mamutik Island.

Self shiok sendiri photo.

We went snorkeling and had a handsome guide along with us. Well, he offered himself to us swimming with two ladies, how could we resist when he promises we'll see beautiful fishes to swim slightly deeper to the waters?

The fishes here in Mamutik was more prettier than Manukan, to be honest. I spotted rainbow fishes (don't know their names but the fishes has rainbow skin) really cool.

Well...we also write names on sand.

And here's my confession to my boyfriend. His my love, my lover, my baby, my awesome man, fluffy, and my best friend; Happy 11th months together and the sweet memories and skyping till we fall asleep every single day!

Baby Shannon heart (LOVE) Fluffy.

I've sent this two pictures to him and he said it's gonna be his wallpaper immediately! So cute! Love sending him my photos of randomness.

My Cherry Cherry Bandeau Bikini is by Woopz Bikinis, they got some cute bikinis on woopzbikinis.com

Also not forgetting to make a mark, saying I'm here!

KB took this photo for me. Love the clear sky and waters.

Oh, we were also random. Trying to build a sand castle but failed...

So we ended up collecting sea shells. Like little kids we look for treasures by the beach to find pretty sea shells.

The weather changes quickly as we leave the island just in time, it started raining a little and as we reached town it's just drizzles so we walk past downtown of KK.

I've been to graffiti pillars or building in KK while it's KB first time, so she gets super excited. Check out more photos on the creative art here

Later on we went to filipino market which is a popular daily night market place for the local and tourist. You'll find lots of food, souvenirs and fresh seafood! Be sure to bargin to save a few bucks.

Here's a bowl of Basok, it's meehoon soup with chicken and fried spring onions.

Coconut drink is a must in KK. Because they are huge.

We had seafood. So we picked out our fish and prawns to be cooked. There's a few choices on how you wish to cooked the seafood. Neither BBQ or with sauce. Some may have a few variety on the sauce, be it spicy, or sweet and spicy or just sweet sauce.

Here we had huge prawns, fish BBQed with sweet sauce and sotong (squid) from another stall. The BBQ sotong (squid) is 10 pieces together for RM 10 bucks if I'm not mistaken.

We ordered a medium size fish, 3 giant prawns total we RM 120 after we bargin and saved RM 20 bucks.

Island Trip

Get to Jesselton Port and just reach any counter to pay your boat fare for island trip. You can choose to visit just one island or do island hopping on 3 different island (Not advisable as you'll feel it's pretty stressful to keep hopping island. Best to just chill and relax on one island as all the island looks the same to me.

Island: Manukan, Mamutik, Sapi.

Price:
If you opt for 1 Island trip return Boat fare is RM 23 (per adult) and RM 18 (per child)

Terminal fee is RM 7.20 (per adult) and RM 3.60 (per child or student *show your student card)

Equipment rental:-
Mask & Snorkel and Tins are RM 10 each (per pax)
Life Jacket and Beach Mat are RM 5 each (per pax)

When you reach the island you are required to pay Park conservation for Malaysian is RM 3 (per pax *must show Identification Card) and Non-Malaysian for RM 10 (per pax)

So total do spare about RM 50 per pax for island trip in 1 day.

The closing time for the island is 5pm so you have to get back to Jesselton Port by 5pm.

I took Beach Bums Ferry Services (counter 2), they are the most active counter in Jesselton Port so I do recommend them they offer other water sports activities you can visit them at go2borneo.com for price list and details. Nevertheless, most of the boat counters are almost the same price due to a fixed rate policy set there, so it shouldn't varies too much.

Yoyo Bubble Tea only in Kota Kinabalu

I was not a bubble tea fan a year ago during my visit to KK when I had my first cup of Yoyo bubble tea. However, after many bubble tea shops started to mushroomed up in KL and PJ, I've became a fan of a particular brand since then.

So while I'm in KK, of course I'll like to try again Yoyo bubble tea, which is only available in KK.

I enjoy yoyo and to be honest it's way better than Chatime. Yoyo has a long way to beat Gong Cha as it still remains on my top priority in KL however, in KK, Yoyo is pretty good.

Love the mini pearls, crystal jelly that taste like coffee and pearls are chewy and bouncy.

Price range is between RM 4.50 - RM 7. Pretty affordable.

Firefly Sighting and Kampung Tour around Kemaman, Terengganu

It was a fun and interesting trip with bloggers and friends. Indeed an experience for me as this is my first time in Terengganu. Thanks to Nuffnang and Genting Group, a few of us had the privilege to be on a sponsored trip to Awana Kijal and Kampung Tour organized by Genting group and Awana Hotels.

After settling in the resort, our first itinerary was to head out on a boat ride for firefly sighting after dinner in the resort.

While on the way in the bus to our destination, Mr. Tour Guide brief us on some of the details and what to expect while we're on the boat to watch Firefly, in Bahasa Malaysia firefly is known as "kelip-kelip". For Firefly sighting per adult cost RM 50 while children aged 4 to 12 for RM 25.

Firefly light up to find mates generally, they gather at particular trees to find mate as well. Our tour guide explained it's like their "hang out place".

As we arrive, we're divided into two boats to watch firefly in Sungai Yah Yah. The scene and environment was great. However, cameras with flash are not allowed this is so the flash lights do not harm the firefly.

It was about a 30 minutes boat ride enjoying firefly. It was really beautiful. Besides lots of firefly we get to see beautiful stars flooded on the sky. It's been ages since I've spotted a star, not to say, the entire sky filled with stars. It's just so pretty and amazing. The firefly was just moderate as explained by our guide as it depends on season (month). Nevertheless, for my first firefly sighting experience, it's beautiful, they even fly near to you and around you!

With Jess. Happy faces after looking at beautiful firefly "dating". ;)

PS: You are not allow to apply any insect repellent when visiting Firefly sighting as...the strong scent of insect repellent will keep the firefly away! ;)

Group Photo!

On our second day, we headed out for our kampung tour journey.

First stop was the Turtle Sanctuary.

We get to see some turtles here. Not literately by the beach but these turtles are kept under the care of Turtle Sanctuary.

We were shared with many insights on how the turtles lay eggs and it's sad to find out the turtles no longer come to the shores of Malaysia beach due to pollution and humans disturbing them when these female turtles are laying eggs. It's also said to be dangerous to the female turtles they are laying eggs and people came with flashing cameras and making noises. So sad, I wasn't able to witness this as years ago the Tourism Malaysia had organized trips to watch the turtle lay eggs. However, now they had been less of them around Malaysia.

So here's the process in the gallery of Turtle Sanctuary.

Next stop on our way to Mengkuang handicraft center.

We get to see how it's made.

Lovely bangs, purse, baskets and floor mats.

So we did some shopping here and I've got my clutch. Pretty isn't it? Love the colour combination, purple and turquoise, my favourie colours.

Just on more stop before lunch. We went to batik gallery. You can buy some of the paintings.

Or opt to do your own at RM 10 per piece. Like how we bring out our creativity to paint a master piece. Just like primary school how we had art classes. :)

It was fun and the end result is really satisfying just a disadvantage is some of the colours were mixed up and we didn't have enough time to colour it so it became too rush.

We then proceed on with Lunch at Tong Juan Seafood which is well known for its speciality Stuffed Crabs.

Then we also went on for some Keropok  shopping.

And more Keropok shopping on our 3rd day which was also our last day.

I've bought some Keropok Lekor, freshly fried on the spot. 5 pieces for RM 2 only at Kedai Keropok dan Hasil Laut Kak Lah (Foursquare location).

We wouldn't be able to visit so many places without a guide or transport. The Kampung Tour is certainly worth it and a good experience being able to see Trengganu on a better view.

For more information about Kampung Tour, you may contact Awana Kijal Resort as guest in the resort you can register with them for Firefly Sighting and/or Kampung Tour around Kemaman, Terengganu at the counter in the lobby.
